Mary Ellen McNaughton Honored for Excellence in Self -Awareness and Communication
Mary Ellen McNaughton helps people overcome life challenges in a positive way

KELOWNA, BC, CANADA, August 9, 2013, Mary Ellen McNaughton, Counselor for Words as Windows, has been recognized by Worldwide Who’s Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in self awareness and communication.

As a counselor and owner of Words as Windows, Mary Ellen McNaughton helps individuals and couples utilizing a cognitive model called nonviolent communication that was developed by Marshall Rosenberg. Drawing upon this model, she specializes in self-esteem, bereavement, communication and relationship issues, working with people individually and in workshop and classroom settings. Although she works with communication, her real focus is the communication that clients have with themselves or Self-Talk. This Self-Talk provides a window into how clients decipher meaning from situations and can be particularly helpful in situations that are triggering or painful. She helps people become more understanding and compassionate with themselves, enhancing their experience of life. This translates into an enhanced quality of relationship with themselves and with other people.

Ms McNaughton is the author of the forthcoming book; Debriefing That Painful Moment, Tune in to Your Own Self-Talk. Ms. McNaughton has been interviewed for Close Up TV News by Jim Masters and Doug Llewelyn for two half hour features, and is currently doing another 4 week series with them where she will be discussing a step by step debriefing flow sheet that she uses in her book which facilitates self awareness and compassion.

Initially, Ms. McNaughton became involved in her profession because of her interest in psychology, biology and the mind-body connection. She has continued her success within the field through her ability to help people debrief and understand situations that are triggering emotionally, facilitating a deeper awareness of themselves and what is really important to them. In 1997, she graduated from The University of British Columbia with a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology. This was her second master’s degree, she earned her first in 1978 from the University of Windsor in biology. Ms. McNaughton is registered with the Canadian Counseling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA-ACCP). For past seven years, she has taught communication to first-year nursing students as an adjunct professor, for the University of British Columbia, Okanagan Campus. She works on contract with the Central Okanagan Hospice Association doing palliative and bereavement counseling and also teaches nonviolent communication authored by Marshall Rosenberg in a workshop and classroom format.  Ms McNaughton volunteers on the board of the British Columbia Network for Compassionate Communication (BCNCC).

During her free time enjoys spending time with family, cycling and camping.
